Resource Mapping

The Oklahoma Community Institute believes that successful communities and neighborhoods are built on the gifts of the citizens who live there, and that the strength of a community is directly proportional to the number of people who contribute their abilities to the well-being of the community. It becomes important to identify and capture the potential of all citizens. Collectively, these individual capacities represent a powerful tool for community building that can be used to address problems, promote growth, and enhance the quality of local life.

Similarly, associations, or groups of individuals who come together voluntarily for a common purpose, are often underutilized as powerful resources for community development. Institutions, to the extent they are committed to the community beyond their own mission, are also essential resources. Resources, individual, association or institutional, are not assets until they are coupled with a strategy or project that uses them. First, however, they must be identified or mapped.

The Oklahoma Community Institute is prepared to guide your community, neighborhood or association in the discovery, or mapping, of the riches available to you. We will help your community:

Define the goals of the inventory
Define the population to be inventoried
Identify resources to be used in the inventory process
Select the mapping method(s)
Design the inventory
Conduct the inventory
Assess and organize data collected

We will be happy to discuss this mapping process with you in greater detail. Our commitment is to the health of your community.
