For a community to create a vision for its future, a group of citizens that reflects the diversity of the community must join together to construct a plan based on their shared values. The community must identify goals, objectives and action plans, and each member of the community has a part to play in the actions taken to reach the goals.

OCI works with neighborhoods, communities, counties and regions within Oklahoma who want to design a plan for their future. We use a process based on a model used by the National Civic League called "Focus on Your Future: A Strategic Approach to Community Improvement" to help communities across the country reinvent their future.

OCI implements two parts to the planning process: the creation of a structure for problem solving and change, and development of a community wide strategic plan

The OCI planning process is implemented inside a structure specifically designed for the needs of the specific community we are working with. The structure gives the community a framework for working on solutions to challenges that face the whole community. It is one of the significant aspects that differentiates this process for improving the community from traditional methods. The planning model is designed to systematically move communities toward their preferred future.
